This week had a little of everything, for better or worse.

Here's a rundown of the biggest stories orbiting the celebuverse:

R.I.P., Jenni Rivera: Millions of fans who embraced Jenni Rivera's multi-cultural appeal mourned this week following the death of the 43-year-old Latin entertainer in a plane crash in Mexico. The cause of the crash hasn't yet been determined, an executive at the company that owned the plane is having legal troubles and two Mexican police officers were arrested for allegedly stealing from the crash site, so the how's and why's may remain unanswered for a while. What is known is that Rivera's family was finally able to take her remains back home to California, where they will continue to grieve their fallen daughter, sister and mother.

Vive La France: Poor Golden Globe- and SAG-nominated Anne Hathway. The Les Misérables star eschewed underwear in order to avoid an unsightly panty line at the New York premiere of her film, the paparazzi took photos of her as they always do, happened to notice the wardrobe dysfunction and people talked about it. Shame, shame on everybody! (Other issues of note this week: LeAnn Rimes' nip slip and Elizabeth Reaser's panty flash.)

23 and Counting: Golden Globe nominee Taylor Swift made a birthday week of it (23 refers to her age, not number of boyfriends) with Harry Styles in England, the One Direction lad showing her the sites during a romantic jaunt around the countryside following his group's performance at the X Factor finale. (P.S. That's not to be confused with the U.S. version of The X Factor that L.A. Reid is leaving.) (P.P.S. And never mind that an alleged knife-wielding intruder busted into Taylor's place in Nashville while she was away.) Alas, all fantastical things must end, so that was Harry driving Taylor to the airport Friday. Until their next adventure!

Good Hunting, Ben Affleck: And he's not the only one, though the actor-director's CIA thriller-comedy hit Argo did get a particular lot of love when the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations were announced this week. The only film to get more love, in the form of a leading seven Globe noms, was Lincoln. SAG voters also took a shine to Silver Linings Playbook and Les Misérables, while the Hollywood Foreign Press admired Django Unchained a great deal.

Beyond Shocking: For the second time this year, the nation grieves after what can only rightly be called a massacre, this time at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. While way too many people of all ages have fallen victim to gunfire, this particular incident involved, per authorities, a young man gunning down 20 children and six adults and then fatally shooting himself. His mother, a kindergarten teacher at the school, was found dead at her residence. Celebs of all stripes took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness—and many of them are banging the drum for better gun control.

Sad Aftermath: The investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the hanging death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha, the employee at the hospital where Kate Middleton was being treated, who answered a prank call made by two Australian deejays—who are suspended indefinitely—and, thinking that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles were on the phone, transferred the call to a nurse who divulged more information about the duchess' condition.

The Daily No: What could lovable rogue and battler of British tabloid culture Hugh Grant have done to offend Jon Stewart so?! Surely The Daily Show host, who has interviewed A-list celebrities and heads of state alike, has dealt with bigger divas. Well, perhaps not, because Grant is the only one in recent memory who Stewart has more or less banned by name. And rightly so, according to the lovable rogue himself!

Stewing the Pot: Kristen Stewart wore an unflattering see-through dress to the New York premiere of On the Road, but we don't think that's any reason for her to quit acting.

If the Tweet Fits: Rihanna tweeted a profane sentiment that seemingly jives with Chris Brown supposedly being joined in Paris by supposed ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran.

Birth Announcements: Jenna Bush Hager is pregnant with her and hubby Henry Hager's first child...Gavin Lee Guess, born to Marisa Miller and hubby Griffin Guess.

Court Docket: Fired Storage Wars star David Hester sues, claims show is fake...Pawn Stars sued for $5 million by their former talent agency...Lindsay Lohan's probation from necklace theft has been revoked...Amanda Bynes hit-and-run charges dismissed...Courtney Leigh Ames, the last member of the Bling Ring to pay the piper, pleaded no contest to receiving stolen property...Sally Struthers pleaded not guilty of DUI...Chris Evans' brother Scott charged with attempted cocaine possession...Two men arrested in New York and Vermont were allegedly part of a plot hatched by an imprisoned murderer to kill and castrate Justin Bieber...Alleged Carly Rae Jepsen hacker charged in Canada...Ariel Winter remains under sister's guardianship for now while dad assumes control of her finances...Pamela Anderson owes more than $370,000 in back taxes...Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash sued again.

Splits: Sarah Palin's son Track divorcing wife Britta after 18 months of marriage; they have a 1-year-old daughter, Kyla...

Farewell: Ravi Shankar, famed sitar player who bridged Eastern and Western music and remained active touring and recording for six decades, died at 92.
