Tom Sandoval is opening up about a personal milestone.
The Vanderpump Rules star—who announced he began his sobriety journey earlier this year—reflected on being nearly six months sober, noting that the decision to stop drinking alcohol came shortly after his affair with Raquel "Rachel" Leviss (leading to his split from longtime girlfriend Ariana Madix) came to light.
"I haven't drank since I believe it was April 4th or 5th," the Bravo star during the premiere episode of his Everybody Loves Tom podcast. "I didn't really tell a lot of people during the process, I think that kind of helps. Also, I quit smoking cigarettes. I was kind of to the point where I was just chain smoking cigarette and drinking all day, every day."
As the Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras frontman explained, he realized his alcohol intake was often times connected to the nervousness he would experience right before a show.
"That had to be one of the biggest challenges was getting on stage and performing especially in the wake of all this," he said, in reference to the scandal, "not knowing how people are going to respond to this."
However, Tom noted that he had established a pre-show routine involving several drinks even prior to Scandoval.
"Before I went on stage, it was pretty much at least three shots, three beers just to calm my nerves," he said. "And that's normal, that was pre-scandal."
Now, Tom credits his personal journey and love for his band as two factors that changed his life.
"I think that honestly quitting the drinking and going on tour, it might have actually saved my life," the reality star, 40, noted. "I can't imagine being cooped up—because I couldn't go anywhere at the time—in a place, not being able to anything, just wallowing in misery."
There was also another factor that he said led to his lifestyle change.
"At that point, Rachel had—and honestly that's one of the reasons why I stopped drinking," he said. I stopped drinking the day that she went into The Meadows."
In April, a source confirmed to E! News that the 29-year-old entered a facility for mental health treatment in the wake of the affair. (She has since left treatment, revealed she's blocked Tom on social media and will not be returning for season 11 of Vanderpump Rules).
And if you're wondering about Tom's love life now, he is currently single—and not truly eager to mingle.
"I'm not getting into anything serious right now," he exclusively told E! News earlier this month. "I'm just kind of really taking some time."
