So how is Gavin Rossdale passing the time these days?
We know exactly what his ex-wife is up to. Gwen Stefani is one half of the most visible celebrity couple in the world right now, her blossoming romance with Blake Shelton at first unfolding week after week on The Voice, already its own reality show, before exploding into our consciousness as Stefani made the rounds promoting her latest solo album, the largely based-on-true-events This Is What the Truth Feels Like. Then Shelton hit the circuit promoting his own little slice of honesty, If I'm Honest, and—polite questions about work, Angry Birds and music aside—what everyone really wanted to know about was his relationship with Stefani.
So if Rossdale wants to think less about his ex-wife's new man...
Watching TV and using the Internet are out.
A source told E! News this week that Rossdale, who was allegedly responsible for torpedoing his 12-year marriage by cheating with the family's longtime nanny (Stefani, without specifying, has characterized what went down as "a really good, juicy story") doesn't approve of the bond that's forming between his three sons and Shelton—who obviously has been spending a lot of quality time with the kids and Stefani together now that they've been dating for more than seven months.
"If it were up to Gavin he would want to work it out with Gwen," said another insider. "He is still hurt it has turned out this way and now she is in love with another man."
Stefani, understandably, felt just as strongly about protecting their kids in light of what happened so close to home; but despite having the usual regrets her interest in trying to work things out ended before they filed for divorce last August. And if she was already "ready to move on and start a new chapter" in November, as a source told us then, then she's midway through volume one by now.
Rossdale, meanwhile, has been able to keep a lower profile now that the nanny scandal has died down.
But what's a 50-year-old chap to do after finding himself newly single after two decades (he met Stefani in 1995) and only spending half as much time as usual with his kids?
Well, first you buy some new digs with plenty of space for three growing boys. Or four, if you count Dad.
After moving out of the Beverly Hills home he shared with Stefani, the rocker has reportedly purchased an 8,000-square-foot house in Studio City, Calif., for $7.6 million, that part of the San Fernando Valley being quite the haven for celebrity families. The place boasts six bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a pool and an outdoor kitchen. Interestingly, there's no tennis court on the property—tennis being Rossdale's most serious non-musical pursuit—but there are 1.3 acres, so perhaps he's drawing up the plans right now.
Not a bad place to hunker down while your ex and her country-music stud boyfriend are running around writing songs about each other and gushing about how getting together was just the most surprising, delightful miracle.
A source has told E! News that Rossdale isn't dating anyone at the moment, but the British rocker isn't just rambling around his new mansion feeling sorry for himself. He may still be processing the breakup but at least he too gets to do it through music—though he hasn't yet been churning out new songs that appear to be about the split.
After spending Easter with sons Kingston, Zuma and Apollo, Rossdale hit the road. Bush, which broke up in 2002 and reunited in 2010, played a handful of dates in April and this month and the band kicks off a full-fledged summer tour July 21.
Otherwise, since he and Stefani announced their separation last summer and when he's not on stage, Rossdale tends to be spotted doing normal-guy stuff like walking his dog and playing tennis. And judging by recent pics, we suspect he's keeping up with his workout regimen.
"All Gavin is concerned about right now is protecting his kids. He is a fantastic father and his kids have been going through a hard time," a source told told us after the split.
Despite whatever turmoil's been caused by her new relationship, Rossdale and Stefani have been keeping it together for their boys, mother and father both recently attending one of Kingston's school basketball games. Rossdale has also been spotted out and about several times this past month with 2-year-old Apollo, the toddler getting to spend one-on-one time with his dad while his older brothers are in school.
