It was another mixed bag of news, with tragedy and hardship striking some celebs and others just doing what they do best: Getting dressed and acting famous.

CARTER HOUSE TRAGEDY: Leslie Carter, the 25-year-old sister of Nick and Aaron Carter and a costar on E!'s House of Carters, died of an apparent drug overdose in upstate New York.

BREAKING HEARTS: Kristen Stewart looked more beautiful than ever in new photos for a spread in Vanity Fair, overseen by Karl Lagerfeld. But she was her usual, acerbic self when greeting the Paris paparazzi with either a middle finger or a cold "freeze to death!" on her way to lunch.

SAG SURPRISES: George Clooney didn't win! The Help did win! It was a night full of both shockers and shocking repitition at the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards, all of which adds up to an overdue end to the TV-awards season and more excitement come Oscar night.

SOUL MAN: Friends, family and the music world at large mourned the death of Soul Train creator and longtime host Don Cornelius, who committed suicide at the age of 75. He suffered from depression and had been in failing health, according to his son Tony.

FELLOW FAREWELLS: Nick Santino, actor on both All My Children and Guiding Light, overdosed on pills a day after putting down his pet pit bull; he was 47...Ben Gazzara, prolific stage and screen actor who was in films ranging from Anatomy of a Murder to The Big Lebowski, died at 81 of pancreatic cancer...David Peaston, gospel and R&B singer and brother of "Rescue Me" singer Fontella Bass, died at 54 of complications from diabetes...Complications from a recently broken hip as well as cardiac and respiratory conditions contributed to ER actor James Farentino's death last week at 73...Ian Abercrombie, Elaine's exacting boss Mr. Pitt on Seinfeld, died at 77 of complications from kidney failure...Christina Aguilera and Stevie Wonder sang at Etta James' funeral in Gardena, Calif.
