Royal life is going to the dogs. Literally.

While it was rumored around New Year's (when Kate Middleton was photographed frolicking around her parents' Bucklebury estate with a couple of four-legged friends in tow), now we know for sure: Kate and Prince William are the proud pet parents of a cocker spaniel puppy.

Look out, corgis. There's a new top dog in town.

The pooch's name has not been revealed, though the black male spaniel puppy was reportedly a gift to Kate from Will at Christmas.

A Lady for the duchess? How very fitting.

A royal rep confirms to E! News that the pup is a couple months old and comes from a litter "known to the couple through a family connection." What connection, exactly, is unclear, though the Middleton family has a cocker spaniel of their own, which Kate was spotted playing with during the holidays.

Meanwhile, man's best friend will turn into duchess' best friend next month, when Wills is scheduled to be deployed to the Falkland Islands for six weeks of training with the Royal Air Force.
