Although the basketball star remains hospitalized, Khloe Kardashian is making sure he rings in the extra special day filled with lots of love and those who care about him most.
E! News has learned that the 32-year-old reality star is throwing him a small party in the hospital, giving him an opportunity to leave his room for a little while to celebrate.
"There will be balloons and a cake," an insider tells us. "Khloe has organized everything. It will be the Kardashian clan and a few of Lamar's closest friends."
Unfortunately, Lamar's children—who live in New York—will not be able to fly out for the party as they have school, but our source tells us they may be able to visit next week for a belated celebration.
Lamar's aunt, Janean Mercer, has released a statement on the family's behalf in honor of the special day.
"Happy Birthday Lamar! We want to THANK everyone from around the world for your continued prayers and well wishes for Lamar and our family. Every birthday with Lamar is special but today is an especially momentous occasion and we honor GOD for this day and thank HIM for allowing us to spend this time together."
She adds, "Please continue to keep Lamar and our family in prayer as he continues on this miraculous journey."
Meanwhile, the insider tells us that Lamar's recovery is going slow, but he's doing OK.
"He is making progress but it is slow. He is still working on improving his cognitive and motor skills. He is finding it difficult to express his thoughts. He can stand up, but only with assistance, [and he] still has help with eating."
Though we're sure the birthday boy will certainly appreciate Khloe's thoughtfulness, our source says it's difficult to decipher his mood as he is still currently under quite a bit of medication.
Lamar has been in the hospital since Oct. 13 after he was found unconscious at a Las Vegas brothel. He was originally receiving medical help at the Sunrise Hospital in Nevada where he spent several days in a coma, but after waking up and becoming stable, he was later transported to a Los Angeles hospital.
Khloe—who recently called off their divorce despite revealing that they are not getting back together—continues to visit Lamar almost daily. Though she was able to jet off for her boyfriend James Harden's Houston Rockets basketball game last week, she returned to the hospital the next day to spend Halloween with Lamar.
She will keep helping in the decision making process for his medical procedures as he continues in what we're told will be a "super long road" to recovery.
