February 29 is Leap Day and with it comes several traditions...

Buying a little extra time on that rent check, celebrating newborn babies who will only technically have birthdays every four years, oh, and there's that old school tradition in Ireland where women can propose marriage to men.

You're probably familiar thanks to the Amy Adams' documentary* on the subject, Leap Year, in which a woman follows her boyfriend to Dublin to pop the question.

(*Note: This is a 2010 romantic-comedy film, not a documentary.)

Obviously, this is an outdated move. Anyone can propose to anyone else—or not propose at all. Whatever works best for a couple.

In fact, there are several female stars who proposed to their significant others, and they didn't have to wait for a random "holiday" to do it.

Take Pink, for example.

Back in 2005, the singer proposed to motocross star Carey Hart midway through one of this races.

Her approach?

She held up a "Will you marry me?" sign, and when he didn't stop the first time around, she followed up by adding "Seriously!"

The pair is happily married and are parents to an adorable daughter, Willow.

For Kristen Bell, it was all about timing.

The Frozen star hopped onto Twitter to pop the question to Dax Shepard.

Following the Supreme Court's 2013 ruling that the Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional, Bell tweeted at her beau: "@daxshepard1 will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove"

It was later revealed that Bell and Shepard had been engaged for over two years but were waiting for marriage equality before saying "I do."

Either way, the Veronica Mars' star's proclamation of love was just the sweetest.

Another star with a special proposal follow-up was Jennifer Hudson.

Five months after the singer's boyfriend David Otunga popped the question to Hudson on her birthday, the American Idol alum proposed right back to Otunga on his birthday and presented him with a ring.

The two remain engaged and have a son together.

Judge Judy Sheindlin was the one to do the asking when it came to her marriage to now-husband Jerry Sheindlin.

Judy Judy told DuJour she cornered Sheindlin with a calendar.

"I did propose to him," she told the magazine.

"I said to him, 'Where is this relationship going?' And he tried to weasel out of it, with his, 'Well, you know, why do we have to get married?' Whatever. He finally capitulated. I told him to pick a date. He picked Flag Day."

The couple divorced in 1990 and remarried a year later and have several children and grandchildren between them.

Diane von Furstenberg presented her proposal to Barry Diller as a birthday present.

The iconic fashion designer and her businessman hubby tied the knot in 2001 after Furstenberg did the asking.

"One year I didn't know what to give him for his birthday," Diane revealed to O magazine in 2014.

"And I called him and said, 'You know, if you want, for your birthday I'll marry you.' And he said, 'Let me see if I can arrange it.' It's what he always says, and he always arranges it. A week later we married at City Hall, and he gave me—this is so Barry—he gave me 26 wedding rings, for the 26 years we had not been married."

Proving, once again, there's no right or wrong way when it comes to who does the asking and how to tie the knot.
