Mindy Kaling is in vogue, both literally and figuratively.

The Mindy Project creator is profiled in Vogue's April 2014 issue, and she looks stunning wearing a Dries Van Noten blouse and skirt and Oscar de la Renta pumps in the accompanying photo shoot.

Much has been written about Kaling's body, which the 34-year-old finds irksome given her long list of achievements. (She earned six Emmy nominations as a writer and producer for The Office, after all.)

"There's a whole list of things I would probably change about myself," says Kaling, who fluctuates around a size 10. "For example, I'm always trying to lose 15 pounds. But I never need to be skinny. I don't want to be skinny. I'm constantly in a state of self-improvement, but I don't beat myself up over it." That being said, Kaling knows how to dress her curves. "When I'm at my thinnest, I tend to wear things that don't show off my body," she explains. "But when I'm bigger, I'll go body-con, which comes from a place of 'This is my perimeter, in case you were wondering if I was actually much bigger.'"

Kaling isn't afraid to take sartorial risks, either, particularly when they involve color or patterns. "It's really tempting not to take chances. But I don't want to be fearful," the TV star tells the fashion magazine. "I don't want my tombstone to say, 'She hid her imperfections well on the red carpet.'"

The Marni, Miu Miu and Roland Mouret fan has picked up a few tips along the way. "When you're dealing with volume," the best-selling author advises, "you really need to go shopping with friends."

"I feel the same way about clothes as I do about food," Kaling quips. "I want everything."
