That must be one huge hourglass!

NBC has just announced that their long-running daytime series Days of Our Lives has been renewed for not just one, but for two more years on the network. That's right, that means the drama in Salem will continue to unfold on our TV screens through September of 2016. Adding to the good news, the Emmy award-winning series will celebrate its 50th year on the air in Nov. 2015.

"Days of Our Lives continues to be a fan favorite for the daytime audience and we are thrilled to keep it going through its 50th season," Jennifer Salke, NBC's President of Entertainment, announced in a press release Wednesday afternoon. "Days has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics and remains both relevant and fresh creatively due to the hard work of the producers, writers, cast and crew who have worked tirelessly to make Days the ratings success it is today."

News of this renewal comes less than a day after longtime Days actress Alison Sweeney announced her departure from the soap opera.

"I've been on Days of Our Lives for 21 years. I'm celebrating my 21st year and I decided that it's going to be my last year with the show," Sweeney announced while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I've been on Days of Our Lives since I was 16 years old, and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time. It's awesome. I love Sami, I love Salem, I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans—I love everything about it."

Despite Sweeney's departure, Steve Kent, Vice President of Sony Pictures Television, is thrilled for Days to be able to continue their story for the next two years. "Having won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama, Days of Our Lives continues to deliver on its legacy of quality storytelling. We appreciate NBC's continued support and are excited to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary with our generations of dedicated fans."

Days of Our Lives, which first appeared on the peacock network in 1965, is set in the fictitious midwestern town of Salem and will continue to highlight the drama, romance, and mysteries of the Bradys, the Hortons and the DiMeras families.

(E! and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
