Cate Blanchett may play a woman in throes of a complete meltdown in Blue Jasmine, but that doesn't mean she can't look fab doing it.
In the Woody Allen-directed drama (in theaters today), Blanchett plays Jasmine, a New York socialite who is left broke after her husband (Alec Baldwin) is sent to prison for Bernie Madoff-like crimes.
While Jasmine doesn't have a pot to you-know-what in, she manages to hang on to some of her most fab designer clothing, including pieces from Chanel, Valentino, Oscar De La Renta, Fendi, Ralph Lauren and Caroline Herrera.
"In order for [Woody] to maintain creative freedom, he makes [his films] on a shoestring budget," Blanchett told E! News at the L.A. premiere of the movie. "Suzy Benzinger, the costume designer, called in every favor she could."
She added, "Everyone pitched in."
Karl Lagerfeld didn't just send them any Chanel pieces. "In two days he shipped out two custom-made jackets for Cate Blanchett with the most beautiful note," Benzinger told Lucky magazine. "And I just thought, 'Oh my god,' and he just said 'For Cate, I'd do anything.'"
As beautiful as some of the pieces were, Blanchett didn't taken anything home with her. "Often I think about that, because they are such great pieces," Blanchett said. "But in the end they feel like costumes because they're part of Jasmine's world, not mine."
