AKM-GSIModern Family star Ariel Winter is continuing on with her everyday life despite being involved in a family legal battle.
The 14-year-old star—who plays Alex Dunphy on the hit TV comedy—was snapped Friday heading to a nail salon with her sister turned guardian Shanelle Gray.
The siblings walked hand-in-hand and tried to stay incognito during the casual outing. Winter was dressed in basic black leggings, flats and T-shirt, with her hair in a topknot and a somber look on her face.
After getting their nails done, a source tells us they went for massages and were given the option of leaving through the back door to avoid the trailing paparazzi, but instead made their way back to their car in full view of the shutterbugs.
Ariel is now in the custody of her older sibling after being removed from mother Chisoula Workman's care amid court filings containing allegations the actress was subjected to physical and emotional abuse.
Yesterday, Ariel's mother spoke out about the allegations, claiming that she and her daughter butted heads over the star's relationship with 18-year-old actor Cameron Palatas, telling E! News that she "would never abuse her [daughter] in any way."
And today, it was revealed that Workman filed a police report on Oct. 6 against Ariel's boyfriend after catching the two in bed together.
E! News also obtained a declaration from a physician who treated Winter; he insists that there has "never been any evidence of an abusive relationship."
Ariel's sister is currently seeking permanent guardianship over the star.
A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20.
