"Who are you wearing?"
Not only are these the famed words of the late and great Joan Rivers, but it's a question that encapsulates the moment fashion fanatics look forward to the most during the Oscars: the dress reveal.
Of course, we're still a few days away from awards season's biggest night, but that doesn't mean we can't envision what glorious, glamourous gowns will make it to the show.
Can't quite see the end result? Let us show you the possibilities—as GIFs!
Dress Predictions:
1. Valentino
2. Elie Saab
3. Rodarte
So far, Rooney Mara has proved a penchant for gowns that are equally edgy as they are romantic. We're expecting to see her in lace with metallic or hardware accoutrements. Perhaps a graphic Valentino gown with a body chain or macabre Rodarte? A sleep ponytail has a good chance of finishing the look off.
Dress Predictions:
1. Valentino
2. Marchesa
3. Jenny Packham
Based on her Style File, Alicia Vikander loves long, lean, column dresses with an unconventional take on sparkle. If consistency is key, perhaps we'll see the star in ethereal Jenny Packham. Maybe The Danish Girl actress will surprise us and arrive in a Grecian-style Valentino gown.
Dress Predictions:
1. Ralph & Russo
2. Marchesa
3. Giorgio Armani Privé
Definitely a Best Dressed contender, Brie Larson will surely stun come Oscars. Perhaps she'll go the sequence route, like she did at the Globes, and arrive in duo-texture Giorgio Armani Privé or perhaps blue Marchesa (a la her SAGs Versace dress) better suits her.
Dress Predictions:
1. Giambattista Valli
2. Oscar de la Renta
3. Marchesa
Jennifer Lawrence has kept it pretty low-key this awards season—but that doesn't mean she won't turn it out for the Oscars. Of course, the face of Dior will most likely show up in the brand's own designs. But we'd like to see her in something completely over the top.
Dress Predictions:
1. Marchesa
2. Alexander McQueen
3. Reem Acra
You can never guess what Cate Blanchett will wear. The award winner has mastered the art of avant-garde fashion. Each time she arrives on a red carpet, she looks poised yet artful. If we had to bet, Cate might opt for an embellished Alexander McQueen or pleated, flowy Reem Acra.
