Calling all Barbz! Nicki Minaj is coming to TV. The multi-platinum music star will executive produce and appear in an ABC Family comedy based on her life. The single-camera half-hour series will shoot in Queens, New York this winter.

ABC Family has already handed out a series commitment to the project set in the early 1990s. The show is based on Minaj and her family's immigration from Trinidad and will focus on her "vibrant family and the personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom," the network said in a release.

"This is one of the more unique adventures I've ever embarked on," said Minaj. "I couldn't be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special."

Kate Angelo of Will and Grace and Bernie Mac wrote the pilot and will write and executive produce the series alongside Minaj. Other executive producers include Aaron Kaplan, Stella Bulochnikov, Brian Sher, and Gee Roberson.

"Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches," Karey Burke, executive vice president of programming and development at ABC Family, said in a statement. "We're beyond thrilled to bring her one-of-a-kind story to our channel. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can't wait to share it with the world."

Minaj's other acting work includes voice gigs in Ice Age: Continental Drift and Steven Universe as well as a supporting role in The Other Woman opposite Cameron Diaz. No details on what her role will be in the show have been announced. No casting was announced.
