Rihanna can do no wrong—stylistically, of course.
She can sport a green fur coat à la Oscar the Grouch, and we shrug with amusement. She garners worst dressed nods, and we chock it up to her rebellious spirit. Her predilection to shock has become the norm. And as a result, the star's ability to actually forge style trends remains uncertain…perhaps until now.
On Monday night, the "Bitch Better Have My Money" songstress came out to support BFF Melissa Forde's debut collaboration with Wrkng Title hat line. Rihanna complemented her oversized coat-and-bralet-combo with one of the brand's newly designed bucket hats.
The topper of LL Cool J circa 1980s fame has been named the new wide-brim for festival season by many a fashion blog and style magazine. And now that one of the most popular women in music has endorsed the look, it'll be interesting to see whether it translates into mainstream fashion.
Keep in mind that Rihanna once had a direct line to the fashion masses through her collaboration with affordable clothing line River Island. She's also sported different iterations of the hat a few times in the previous year. This particular hat will also be exclusively sold through the brand's site and Opening Ceremony, a retailer favored among cool kids and fashion-forward celebs like Chloë Sevigny and Solange.
In the past, there have been several attempts to make unique hats a thing. Remember Pharrell Williams' towering Nick Foquet-designed topper? Or even Salma Hayek's beret from Paris Fashion Week? Neither hats have become style staples, so if the bucket hat does in fact surpass the threshold of trends only celebs can sport, it'll be a true testament to RiRi's fashion authority.
What do you think? Would you rock the look?
