A Los Angeles judge ruled this morning to extend the temporary restraining order against Shawn Johnson's alleged stalker.
Robert Michael O'Ryan, who was allegedly caught packing a gun while trying to break into the Dancing With the Stars studio to meet his obsession, is now barred from having any contact with the 17-year-old Olympian, her parents and her dance partner for three years, and must keep at least 500 feet away from her at all times.
Neither the accused nor Johnson was in court. Her parents attended the hearing, though, accompanied by their lawyer, Laura Stone, who told reporters afterward that the family "was pleased with the decision."
O'Ryan, 34, was busted March 23 after hopping a fence and trying to sneak onto the CBS Studios lot in a bid to meet the gold medalist.
Aside from a loaded handgun and shotgun, authorities say O'Ryan was carrying love letters, press clippings and other information on Johnson, duct tape, zip ties and a map—which Johnson's restraining-order documents label as "materials classically used for kidnapping."
As he was taken into custody, O'Ryan told police he had packed up his belongings and driven cross country from Florida to California to be with the gymnast, according to an arrest report.
He pleaded not guilty last month to charges of felony stalking and two misdemeanor counts of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle. He's currently being held in lieu of $220,000 bail after a request by the L.A. District Attorney's Office to have it raised from $35,000.
If convicted, O'Ryan could face up to four years in state prison.
The temporary restaining order was put into effect March 25. In her initial filing, Johnson's mother, Teri, said she believes the defendant is a "disturbed person" who has caused them "severe emotional distress" and wants to harm her daughter.
