It was the question that launched a thousand cringes.

Kathie Lee Gifford made a pretty huge blunder Wednesday morning on Today when she asked Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted star Martin Short about his wife, Nancy Dolman. The problem? Dolman died of ovarian cancer in 2010.

Still, Gifford isn't alone; here are five other TV interviews that had us covering our eyes, pressing the mute button on our remotes and/or left our jaws on the floor:

1. Megan Fox: The pregnant star's interview with ET's Steve Jones turned sour fast when the former X Factor host did something he wasn't supposed to: ask about her pregnancy! "Do you know the ultimate gadget that every man wants?" Jones awkwardly asked, then answered, "A baby." Fox responded, "A baby? Oh, I know where you're going with this." Before the awkwardness could continue, Fox's publicist shut down the interview.

2. Rihanna: The pop star ended her interview early on Australian morning talk show Sunrise when the interviewer asked her about the rumors surrounding her dating life. "They are. And they're interested in a lot of things—a lot of things that don't matter. Or shouldn't," Ri-Ri said of people being interested in her personal life before "abruptly" ending the chat.

3. Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson: Before shooting to superstardom thanks to The Hunger Games, Hutcherson and Hudgens dated while filming their adventure movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Their romance fizzled before the film came out, but an Australian talk-show anchor did not get the breakup memo, which led to one of the most embarrassing silences ever caught on film when the interviewer asked how long the duo have been dating. Cue long, awkward pause. "We're not," Hutcherson said, finally breaking the tension, as Hudgens shook her head. "We were at one point, but she broke my heart…no, I'm just kidding." Yeah, it's pretty painful.

4. Kanye West: No stranger to drama, the rapper made headlines with his Today interview with Matt Lauer after Lauer played footage of George W. Bush reacting to West's name and then later of West infamously interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs. "I didn't need you guys to show me the tape to prompt my emotions," West said.

5. Martha Stewart: CNN's Suzanne Malveaux's interview with Stewart was supposed to be about the mogul's 75th book, but instead turned to her rocky relationship with her daughter and her infamous stint in jail. Oh, it gets worse. Malveaux then asked about Stewart's political views, saying, "You are a very successful businesswoman. You're also an active Republican." Yeah, too bad Stewart is a registered Democrat.
