New Battleship Trailer: Now With More Rihanna...and a Friday Night Lights Reunion?

Sneak peak for the upcoming big screen adaptation of the classic Hasbro game reveals robots galore

A brand new Battleship trailer is out giving moviegoers a much better glimpse at Universal's summer 2012 tentpole. And the verdict?

It's yet another special effects-laden blockbuster featuring giant robots blowing things up, stuff we've seen a zillion times before à la the Transformers trilogy, Battle: Los Angeles and Terminator Salvation just to name a few.

But hey, it's based on the classic Hasbro board game and has Liam Neeson so it can't be all bad, right?

The sneak peek for the epic adventure starts with the echo of a suspenseful maritime horn (not unlike the hollow mechanical call heard in Michael Bay's Transformers) as Admiral Shane (Neeson) and crew take to the ocean for a series of war games. Little do they realize however what's in store when they make surface contact with an alien armada that's protected, natch, by an impenetrable force field (thank you, Independence Day) and is hell bent on Earthly destruction, or Hong Kong's at any rate.

But unlike the first Taylor Kitsch-heavy trailer that featured a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance from stars like Rihanna and only a quick glimpse of Alexander Skarsgård, now the two are getting full lines! And what the singer has to say is especially ominous. Turns out we were either going to find aliens or they were going to find us. Plus, keep an eye out for an awesome Friday Night Lights reunion: Landry (Jesse Plemons) and Riggins reunited!

Incoming indeed. Battleship hits theaters in May, 2012.
