Like any good sitcom, New Girl's season five finale had a beautiful wedding that was only able to take place after about a billion obstacles got in the way of the bride and groom. But don't worry, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) actually tied the knot!

We'll get into that in a minute, because first we need to talk about what happened with our other favorite New Girl couple, Nick and Jess (sorry, Winston and his prank wife), seemingly made some strides in their relationship.

But did they really?

Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Sam (David Walton) realized they weren't meant to be, and decided to part ways. That opened the door for Jess to realize her true feelings for Nick—but she couldn't talk to him about them because Reagan (Megan Fox) came back to town and told Nick she'd like to give a real relationship a shot.

At the end of the episode, Nick's plan was to follow Reagan to New Orleans for a few months and see how things went.

But what really is the point of all that? It's not like Megan Fox is going to sign on for a sizeable arc on the show (plus, she's totally pregnant right now), so they'll have to split anyway. On the other hand, Nick and Jess getting together gave us a super steamy kiss, but it also stalled the show a bit. (Yes, that is an old picture above, you didn't miss anything.)

Where can their relationship go from here?

As for the wedding, here's how it went down: Schmidt pulled an Uncle Jesse and didn't actually make it to his ceremony on time, but not because of a parachuting detour. He pulled the ultimate romantic move and decided to take a last-minute flight to Portland to put in one final plea asking his bride's mom to attend their wedding—which she has disapproved of since the beginning.

The problem: He booked a flight on a low-cost carrier that didn't actually take off, trapping Schmidt and his fellow passengers on the tarmac all day long. Instead of freaking out, Cece actually loved the romantic gesture—and when Schmidt told her to go ahead with the party, she just FaceTimed him in and they partied via iPad. Plus, her mom had a change of heart and flew in anyway.

When Schmidt finally returned from his round trip in the wee hours of the morning, the wedding party was there to watch the couple finally get married.
