Only one day after an earthquake struck Myanmar, scaring the royals who were on safari Kaziranga National Park, Prince William and Kate Middleton have arrived in Bhutan.

This is the royal couple's first trip to the Himalayan kingdom, where the king's half-sister, Princess Chimi, and her husband greeted them at Paro International Airport. Kate walked off the airplane wearing a gold coatdress designed by Emilia Wickstead, which she previously wore in 2012. Later King Jigme and Queen Jetsun of Bhutan—dubbed the "Will and Kate of the Himalayas"—greeted the British royals in a private official welcome at Tashichho Dzong, a former monastery that is now used for ceremonial occasions.

Prince William, 33, wore the same suit throughout the day, but Kate, 34, changed an ensemble inspired by Bhutanese fashion. Designed by Paul and Joe, the purple skirt with green triangles and gorgeous cream-colored, cape-style top embroidered with black, red and green designs were created out of material woven and sourced from Bhutan. When they first landed Kate wore her hair entirely down but pulled half of it back when she changed her outfit.

The British royals are visiting the country in order to create a new connection between the two nations. The close ages of both couples—King Jigme is 36 and Queen Jetsun is 25—will ideally help in their mission.

The two royal couples also have plans to dine in a private dinner inside Lingkana Palace.

Over the next couple of days Prince William and Kate will make their way to the Tiger's Nest, an ancient Buddhist monastery located 10,000 feet up a mountain. They'll also attend a formal reception at the Taj Tashi Hotel. Before returning to England, Kate and Prince William will head back to India to visit the Taj Mahal.
