Nick Gordon is maintaining his innocence in the death of Bobbi Kristina Brown.
More than a year after the she was discovered face down and unconscious in a bathtub, the autopsy results of Whitney Houston's late daughter have been released.
While her cause of death—Lobar pneumonia, caused by Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy and water immersion combined with mixed drug intoxication—could be determined, the manner of Brown's death could not be defined, the Fulton County Medical Examiner said in a statement. Therefore, it is unclear if the 22-year-old had died accidentally or by intentional forces.
Following suit, her death is still under investigation. While no official suspects have been named as of yet, Brown's former boyfriend was accused of causing her brain damage in a $40 million civil lawsuit filed by Brown's estate. His lawyers assert Gordon did the opposite.
"The truth is that Nick tried to save Bobbi Kristina's life," attorneys Joe Habachy and Jose Baez said in a statement regarding the autopsy and criminal investigation. "The truth is that Nick cooperated with law enforcement since day one. The truth is that no one loved Bobbi Kristina more than Nick and no one has suffered more as a result of her death than [sic] Nick."
Instead of a possible perpetrator in the case, Gordon's attorneys claim he has also been a victim in Brown's devastating loss.
"Nick Gordon's life has been tumultuous since January of 2015 when he lost the love of his life," the statement read. "On top of being prohibited from visiting Bobbi Kristina at the hospital for the last six months of her life, Nick has been publicly humiliated for more than a year.."
"Throughout that time, the Fulton County District Attorney's office has tried to make Nick a murderer despite having clear and convincing evidence that Bobbi Kristina's death was nothing more than a tragic accident, evidence that the District Attorney's office fought to seal and conceal from the public rather than allowing her fans to know the truth."
His lawyers also allege that there is no evidence of their client conducting a crime.
"The Fulton County District attorney's office even now continues to suggest that there is an ongoing investigation. However, at the recent hearing regarding unsealing the autopsy report, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Henry Newkirk repeatedly reiterated that the Fulton County District Attorney's Office has had thirteen months to investigate," the statement continued.
"By failing to acknowledge that there is simply no evidence of any wrongdoing, they have in essence helped feed the slanderous media frenzy regarding Nick Gordon. Frankly, the right thing for the District Attorney's office to do right now is to tell the public the truth... that this was an accident... or even a suicide, but not a murder. And the right thing for everyone to do is let Nick live his life now and let Bobbi Kristina rest in peace."

While the autopsy results provide additional context for authorities investigating his daughter's death, Bobby Brown is not happy the report was publicized before an arrest was made.
"For news affiliates to seek and obtain my daughter's autopsy report, before anyone has been brought to justice for her death is mind blowing to me," he said in a statement. "Please pray for my family."
