Summer may have been the season of the bodysuit—with celebs embracing the typical undergarment as sexy statement pieces (Hey, Miley). However, considering the bodysuit's skintight construction and layer-ability, it's a fall wardrobe essential if we ever saw one.

"The sleek and fitted silhouette gives that perfectly tucked-in look," said celeb stylist Lindsay Albanese. (Kim Kardashian would probably agree.)

Take, for example, Gigi Hadid's ever-classic styling of a black bodysuit—it's simple, comfortable and appropriate for an epic Taylor Swift concert or daytime date. For fall, however, go a little bit longer with the skirt hem and add dimension with design details, like pleating, to the bottom. To complete the look, balance out the skirt's flowy silhouette with a leather moto jacket—it's getting colder now, after all.

Underwear as outerwear? Only if you can style it right à la Jennifer Lopez. She lets a lacy bodysuit anchor her very serious monochrome suit, creating a subtle sex appeal. This season, however, mix things up with a few different fall neutrals and long pieces of outerwear. "I suggest layering [bodysuits] under vests and blazers or pairing under high-waist pants, skirts or shorts," added Lindsay.

This may be one of the only times going sans pants is totally acceptable. One minute, Kourtney Kardashian is standing still and covered up in a long trench, and in the next second, bam! A peek of svelte legs courtesy of a bodysuit and over-the-knee boots. If you're looking to replicate this look in a slightly more subtle way, opt for a one-piece with longer bottoms—it'll almost look like short-shorts.

The bodysuit is great for all your on-the-go appointments, but the great thing about this very basic piece is that it can be the foundation for a more eye-catching look as well. Going to the grocery store? Kendall Jenner's boyfriend jeans look mighty comfortable. Need to catch up with pals later? Add some sparkle with sequin or drip-paint denim. Again, it's getting cold—don't forget a bomber jacket or cropped knitted sweater!
