Did The Daily Show go 0-for-3?

Before selecting Trevor Noah as Jon Stewart's successor, Comedy Central reportedly pursued three major names in comedy.

Amy Poehler, Louis C.K. and Amy Schumer were all approached about taking over The Daily Show, according to Grantland's Bill Simmons

Ironically enough, both Poehler and Schumer made our list of our Top 10 picks to replace Stewart after he announced he was vacating The Daily Show desk after 17 years. (Sorry, Louis C.K., no hard feelings?!)

Schumer already has her own hit show on Comedy Central, Inside Amy Schumer, and tweeted her support of Noah landing the gig on Monday. "Congrats @Trevornoah you will be amazing," she wrote. "We are so lucky to have you!"

Poehler, who has some experience sitting behind a desk and doling out news from Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update, recently said goodbye to Parks and Recreation after six years, and Louis C.K. has a hit show, Louie, on FX.

Speaking with The New York Times, Comedy Central's president, Michele Ganeless said the network "talked to women. We talked to men. We found in Trevor the best person for the job."

After the news was official, Noah tweeted, "No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!"

In a statement, Stewart said, "I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He's a tremendous comic and talent that we've loved working with...In fact, I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!"

Comedy Central has yet to reveal when Stewart will be making his exit from The Daily Show
