Make way for the newcomers.

Freshman series and their stars dominated the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, with Amazon's Transparent taking home several awards, Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez earning the CW's first award ever, and Showtime's The Affair winning Best Drama Series.

And The Affair's leading lady Ruth Wilson managed to beat out Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, How to Get Away With Murder's Viola Davis, Claire Danes for Homeland and House of Cards' Robin Wright to take home the prize for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.

But it wasn't Wilson's first time being nominated for a Golden Globe, as she revealed during her acceptance speech.

"I was nominated for a Golden Globe a number of years ago. It was the years that the writers had a strike and I sat in the Four Seasons Hotel bar watching the results," she said of her 2006 nomination for Jane Eyre. "I lost, it was more than a little disappointing. So thank you HFPA for bringing me back here and putting me on this podium."

And after thanking The Affair's writers for "one of the most complex and shall we say depressed characters I've ever played," Wilson went on to give a special and unusual thank you to her co-star Dominic West, who was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.

"Dom, your ass is something of great beauty," she said. "Do not let anyone tell you otherwise!" (Hey, if you've seen the show, you know she isn't wrong!)

Earlier in the night, The Affair took home the prize for Best Drama Series, with star Joshua Jackson's longtime love Diane Kruger stealing the spotlight with her delighted (and champagne-fueled!) reaction.
