It looks like someone is really into those heavy filters!

John Mayer took to Instagram on Sunday to share a visibly altered selfie of himself and pal Ricky Van Veen. The bizarre photo has been so Photoshopped that Mayer and Van Veen's faces are all fuzzy and blurry. Their skin appears so soft and blemish-free that the two guys look like glowing wax figures (LOL).

While the 37-year-old music star's selfie is clearly very edited, one question remains: did he apply the filters in all seriousness or is he intentionally making fun of users who go overboard with the heavy Instagram edits?

Meanwhile, Mayer made no mention of the Photoshopping in the pic's caption. "So good to see my friend Ricky again. It's been a while," he wrote.

Another clue as to the intent of the funny filtering could be Van Veen's funnyman background. He is the founder of CollegeHumor.com after all.

We're definitely not the only ones who have taken notice of the funny photo. One fan commented on the selfie, "John you look like sims characters," while another wrote, "Fcking filtered to the max."

Do you think Mayer's heavy filter was on purpose or just a joke?
