Mario Lopez is one step closer to Broadway.

I’m told the former Dancing with the Stars contestant (above) has been offered a role in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line, the Michael Bennett musical about aspiring dancers.

Lopez started a frenzy on Broadway Websites and message boards when he appeared on Live with Regis and Kelly on Jan. 18 and talked about his desire to join the show after seeing it.

At the same time, reps for Lopez and the show told the New York Daily News that the ex-Saved By the Bell hunk had already met with producers.

This is what I’m hearing today: Lopez has snagged the role of Zach, the director auditioning the dancing hopefuls. It may be the part with the least amount of singing and dancing, but it would be a mitzvah for Lopez fans.

Why? Because Zach spends most of the show sitting in the actual theater among the regular audience.

Lopez’s rep insists “no offer has been made,” but the actor and producers are “in talks.” A rep for the show said, "We would be thrilled to have him in the show, but there's nothing to announce. It's too early."
