Downton Abbey is going to heat up season five. Literally. New episodes begin Jan. 4, 2015 at 9 p.m. with a fire that rages through the hollowed halls. But that's far from the only drama rocking the halls of the Crawley residence. Everybody's got secrets—secrets that will have the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) making one shocking face. See for yourself in the trailer above!
The trailer features some modern music with some very British Downton Abbey quotes over scenes from the new season. A sampling of the teasers:
"I have a secret...a bad secret."
"We have to be on our guard."
"You're a very naughty boy."
"No one must ever find out."
Season five of Downton Abbey will welcome Girls and Doctor Who Veteran Richard E. Grant as Simon Bricker, a guest of the Crawley family, Anna Chancellor as Lady Anstruther and Rade Sherbedgia as a Russian refugee. Returning guest stars include Dame Harriet Walter as Lady Shackleton and Peter Egan and Lord Flintshire.
The main cast members returning for another go are Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Jim Carter, Penelope Wilton, Phyllis Logan, Samantha Bond, Laura Carmichael, Lily James, Allen Leech, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt, Lesley Nicol, Sophie McShera, Rob James-Collier, Ed Speleers, Kevin Doyle, Raquel Cassidy, David Robb, Tom Cullen, Julian Ovenden, Daisy Lewis, Douglas Reith,Jeremy Swift and Andrew Scarborough.
Last season was particularly rough for Froggatt's Anna and Coyle's Mr. Bates, but we'll see them start to heal after Anna's brutual attack.
"Anna and Bates do start season five in a more positive place than they were in season four, but obviously such an event is not something that dissipates or goes away. It's something that people live with for the rest of their lives," Froggatt told us. "There's still a cloud over Anna and I think she's definitely changed after what's happened to her, but with her and Mr. Bates, they're both trying to get through each day and rebuild their lives together, but as I said there is a cloud hanging over them still."
