The Walking Dead Season 5 Trailer and Premiere Date Revealed: The Journey to End It All Begins

The Walking Dead Frank Ockenfels 3/AMC

Those who arrive, survive. Or so we thought. Talk about false advertising, Terminus! The Walking Dead revealed its season-five trailer at San Diego Comic-Con and as expected, it's explosive, filled with zombies and has us so ready for Sunday, Oct. 12.

"From the opening tease in the premiere onward, season five is without question the most ambitious and satisfying season this amazing team has ever crafted" Charlie Collier, AMC president, said in a statement. "In the zombie apocalypse, event television is alive and well, and I am proud to acknowledge that this uniquely talented writing staff, production team and cast have once again raised the bar (and the crossbow)."

When we last saw Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his merry dirty and exhausted band of zombie apocalypse survivors, they had all made their way to Terminus…only to be locked up and stripped of their weapons. Things weren't looking great, but when has that ever stopped these characters? Check out the trailer below!

"I remember a couple of scenes I would look over at what was going on in the scene and I would be like, 'What the eff? What are we doing? How is this legal?' It's grounded and real, too; it's not like torture or gore for no reason," Steven Yeun told E! News earlier this summer about the season-five premiere. "It's literally, that is what would happen and we are trying to show it. It would not work on network television, let me tell you that."

The second half of season four had the majority of the characters split up, but everybody is back together at Terminus. Well, everybody but Carol (Melissa McBride), Tyreese (Chad Coleman) and baby Judith. Those three are on the road together, and Beth (Emily Kinney) was last seen getting kidnapped (?) while on the road with Daryl (Norman Reedus).

In terms of new faces for season five, The Wire veteran Seth Gilliam will play Father Gabriel.

The Walking Dead season five kicks off Sunday, Oct. 12 at 9 p.m. om AMC.
