Looks like ABC is only handing out a participation ribbon to Trophy Wife.
The network has canceled the freshman comedy starring Malin Ackerman, with the news coming less than 24 hours after ABC renewed eight of their most popular series, including Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Also canceled by the network? Freshman sitcom Mixology, with series star Frankie Shaw tweeting, "Sad day. Love to all you #Mixology fans. Keep watching! Great episodes left, esp the finale. xoxoxoxo."
Although the critically acclaimed series had a devoted group of fans, Trophy Wife failed to bring big audiences in its Tuesday night time-slot. Most recently, the comedy hit a series low in ratings with a 0.7 on its May 7episode. Mixology's most recent episode attracted 3.8 million viewers and a 1.3 demo rating.
Trophy Wife star Marcia Gay Harden, unofficially broke the news of the series' cancellation late Thursday night on Twitter. The actress wrote, "Thank u 4 watching beloved fans. Parting is such sweet sorrow... @TrophyWifeABC cancelled just hours ago. @ABC_Publicity#season2watch#:("
Hoping to fill the voids that Trophy Wife and Mixology will leave behind, ABC has also announced the pick-up of four new comedies Selfie, Galavant, Manhattan Love Story, and Black-ish.
ABC has yet to comment on the cancellations. Series whose fate are still up in the air include Nashville, Suburgatory and The Neighbors.
Trophy Wife's series finale airs Tuesday, May 13, while Mixology finishes its run on Wednesday, May 21.
