Trae Patton/NBCAdam Levine may have a serious bromance going on with fellow coach Blake Shelton on The Voice, but when it comes to the competition in season five, Levine has enlisted another musical man to try and get the win this year.
We can exclusively reveal that Adam Levine has chosen OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder as his team's advisor during the Battle Rounds on this upcoming season of The Voice. For those of you not versed in the flow of the NBC singing competition, the Battle Rounds puts singers head to head in a cage-match fight to the death! Except, there is no death involved, it's just an elimination. So, let's call it a career death.
Tedder is not only the front an for OneRepublic—a band that has put out such hits as "Apologize" and "Secrets," but the 34-year-old songwriter has worked with powerhouse artists like Demi Lovato, Adele, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé…the list goes on and on. That's not just a figure of speech; the list of people he's written and produced songs for is staggering.
Levine recently spoke in defense of The Voice when some critics (and American Idol producers) pointed out that the NBC series has yet to produce a "superstar."
"We totally understand because of the comparisons that might exist out there, why it might seem to be a failure on the show's part," the Maroon 5 star said during the Summer TCA press tour. "The immediacy of winning and becoming a huge star is a fairytale that we would love to see take place, but it's still a fairytale."
Levine and Co. ended up with the last laugh, because the Emmys shut out both American Idol and the X Factor in favor of The Voice in the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program category.
The Voice's fifth season premieres Sept. 23 on NBC, and the Battle Rounds will air Oct. 14 and 15.
