Though he was rumored to be the top pick to replace Jimmy Fallon for months, Seth Meyers never envisioned himself as the host of Late Night!

The Saturday Night Live star and head writer is set to take over for Fallon in 2014 when he replaces Jay Leno as the host of The Tonight Show and we just chatted with the superhumble and gracious Meyers on the red carpet at NBC's upfront presentation in New York City. "I really didn't, but I didn't envision myself doing Saturday Night Live and I didn't envision myself doing Weekend Update," he told E! News' Kristin Dos Santos. "I've been really lucky to have these incredible things happen. This is just another chapter in a very fortunate life so far."

A chapter that includes...The Soup host and Community star Joel McHale?! The funnyman crashed our interview with Meyers to offer him congratulations and, of course, hilarity ensued as the two funnymen revealed they're dating!

Watch: Seth Meyers on New "Late Night" Gig

"It's the weirdest thing because it feels like the beginning of something rather than the end of something," Meyers says of leaving Saturday Night Live for the new Late Night gig. "People are congratulating you, but of course it won't matter if the show's not good. I feel like I'll just be worried the entire next year; worried and excited about putting something together that I hope people will want to watch."

One person who will definitely be watching? McHale, who crashed our interview to give Meyers a hug and to congratulate him on the new job before revealing to us that they are actually dating. Of course, their short courtship soon came to an end when we brought up McHale's wife. "This is the first I've heard about the wife," Meyers joked. "Wow, on the red carpet!" Ah, comedian love, so fleeting!

McHale then turned interviewer, asking Meyers, "Have you slept at all in the last two days?" Meyers quickly responded, "Not enough!"

To hear more from Meyers, including what viewers can expect from Late Night when he takes over, watch our interview with him above!
