Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder? If we're to judge by Dove's new Real Beauty Sketches campaign, it certainly is.
And what most women are beholding isn't exactly beautiful.
The company asked seven women to describe themselves to FBI-trained forensic artist Gil Zamora for its latest campaign, and their descriptions aren't very flattering. One gal describes herself as having a "fat, rounder face," while another explains she has a "pretty big forehead."
Not surprisingly, Zamora's final sketches aren't exactly profile pic worthy, especially when compared to drawings he created using descriptions of the women given by strangers.
"When I was asked to be a part of the film for Dove, I never imagined how different the two sketch portrayals would be," Zamora said in a statement released by Dove. "What has stayed with me are the emotional reactions the women had when they viewed the composite sketches hung side by side. I think many of these brave women realized that they had a distorted self-perception that had affected parts of their lives in significant way."
