TwitterJohn Mayer is ready to leave those "Shadow Days" behind him.
The 35-year-old singer has resumed performing again 10 months after he was forced to take an indefinite break to treat a nagging granuloma on his vocal cords that just wouldn't go away.
"Tonight John sang 'Speak For Me' at the Livingston Town Proper. And we're back," read a message to followers on his Twitter page which included a twitpic of Mayer crooning away with his guitar.
The Born and Raised rocker, who's mostly been in the news these days more for his dinner dates with Katy Perry than his music, performed at a benefit in Bozeman, MT, where he'd taken up residence recently.
Mayer organized the charity concert to assist firefighters who battled the devastating Pine Creek wildfire last summer and was joined on stage by special guest Zac Brown of Zac Brown Band among others.
According to a tweet by CBS This Morning cohost Anthony Mason, whose story on Mayer's vocal comeback airs Feb. 10 on CBS Sunday Morning, the 35-year-old Mayer told him that after 10 months of vocal therapy, "I don't have a ton of range…I'm a 70-year-old version of myself."
But the crooner added: "better than nothing…it's like a painter w/just reds & purples. Full recovery will be 'months.'"
Mayer's pipes began ailing in the summer of 2011 and the problem worsened when a granuloma, an inflamed nodule, was discovered on his vocal cords.
The Grammy winner subsequently underwent surgery to remove the tumor-like mass of tissue that September. But after thinking he was in the clear, by March 2012 the granuloma returned, forcing him off the road for an undetermined time until treatment could be successful.
Despite the setback, Mayer still continued to work, shooting a music video for his single "Shadow Days."
