While the weather is putting a major damper on the Republican National Convention, we thought we'd give the GOP something to be happy about.
We're talking about Sen. John McCain's upcoming appearance on the new season of Parks and Recreation.
"He was great," Parks and Rec star Adam Scott told me at the L.A. premiere of his new movie, Bachelorette. "He's so funny and really game and really nice. It was an honor to meet him.
"I have a lot of respect for him even thought I'm not aligned with him politically," he added. "I do have a high respect for his service."
And it's not like McCain had so much free time to shoot the show. His scene happened to shoot while he was in a public battle with other Republicans for their attacks on a longtime aide of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton because she is Muslim. "It was a ridiculous time," Scott said. "He was really standing up to them and it was a really proud time for him, I think."
Amy Poehler recently told us that her character Leslie has an unexpected run-in with McCain.
"I don't want to give it away, but he just kind of has a small moment and [Leslie] doesn't know he's there," she said. "So, it's kind of funny because she's having a moment and he kind of walks through, and she doesn't really know who she's talking to."
McCain's fellow Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine and California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer also shot cameos while the hit NBC comedy was filming in Washington, D.C. "They're really funny," Scott said. "They turned the jokes really well."
Scott also said that when the senators walk on set, "It's kind of crazy and really cool, but it also gets very quiet."
