Robert Pattinson's Fans Rescue Him From Awkward Kristen Stewart Question

Who needs the Cullens when you've got real-life Twi-hards protecting you?!

Robert Pattinson's fans came to his rescue earlier this evening when things got a little too personal. During a special Times Talks sit-down to promote Cosmopolis, New York Times writer David Carr likened Rob's recent relationship drama to the past issues between "[Prince] Charles and Diana," and the audience was not amused.

Carr's comparison was met with a loud chorus of boos. "I wouldn't go that far," a seemingly embarrassed Pattinson said. He didn't have to elaborate—seconds later an ardent admirer screamed out, "Next question!"

    Whoops! Rob's zipper is down

The 26-year-old actor never directly addressed Kristen Stewart or the "momentary indiscretion" she had with Rupert Sanders that's caused so much controversy. He did, however, provide some insight into why America is so obsessed with celebrities.

"I think it's because America really wants to have a royal family," he said. "They want to pick their king and queen."

Rob got some empathetic cheers from the audience when he expressed his distaste for paparazzi following him. But does he wish that same attention was focused on the policy-makers of our nation? He shrugged, admitting he wouldn't want to be "responsible" for unleashing that on anyone.

Despite a few tense moments, Rob seemed quite at ease alongside Cosmopolis director David Cronenberg. Wearing sneakers, distressed dark denim, a striped shirt, jacket and backwards white baseball cap, he was quite engaged with the crowd, even signing autographs for front row fans as he left the stage.

Consensus? R.Pattz is a class act, and if you don't agree, don't you dare tell his fans.
