As the Kardashian family has proved time and time again, a picture can be worth a thousand words. But a few actual words will do in a pinch, too.
While Kim and Kourtney Kardashian are of course active social media enthusiasts (who needs a trainer, just watch Kourt's Snapchat), they tend to not engage with the headlines of the day as much as their younger sister.
Which isn't to say that Khloe Kardashian is jumping on every rumor—that alone would be a full-time job—but we know by now that the answer to a lot of the questions about what she's up to can be found hidden among the many tweets and Instagram posts that pour forth from her accounts on a near-daily basis.
Just yesterday, for instance, Khloe tweeted, "It's really not that deep."
And that's it.
But it seemed fairly obvious that she was referring to speculation that she's hooking up with 23-year-old NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. after they were spotted looking chummy at Drake's Memorial Day pool party. Theoretically that could have meant anything, or nothing, but by now we're familiar with how Khloe rolls:
There's no need to spell out what's on her mind when a handy subtweet or Instagram meme can handily do the job. (And in the meantime, a source told E! News that yes, they were flirty, but nothing really happened.)
Then again, she also could have been referring to herself, considering how her social media wisdom is just begging to be dissected for parts!
A common theme among her more intense posts is toxic people and how one can stay strong and rise above that toxic influence—often in the face of deeply caring for that toxic person—and while that can apply to anybody, on any given day in the last few months such missives could easily be directed at Kourtney, who's still easing into the post-split life while co-parenting with Scott Disick; or Kylie Jenner, who broke up with Tyga last month.
Or, Khloe is taking her own advice and running with it.
While she's perfectly adept at telling people exactly what she thinks of them if need be, her history of sending not-so-subliminal messages that also contain nuggets of advice for anyone to chew on goes way back.
On soon to be ex-husband Lamar Odom's birthday back in 2014, when divorce proceedings were still hanging in the balance and she was becoming increasingly worried about him, Khloe posted a sad message about having to deal with not getting closure.
And while you can't necessarily classify all of her sub-posts as being entirely about Lamar (though that wouldn't make her the first person to pick a topic and stick with it on social media), posting about life, love and loss has continued to be a means of catharsis for the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star.
In April, days after Lamar's night out with a friends at a bar prompted concern as to where, exactly, he was at with his recovery, she posted a lengthy quote from author Nayyirah Waheed and added her own insight about the bittersweet nature of being in love but not in the way that's going to lead to a life together.
And just last month, when Lamar was spotted having what appeared to be an alcoholic drink on a Sunday afternoon, Khloe deftly subtweeted.
Yet sometimes, of course, she's only trying to pass along the wisdom that is currently inspiring her—and Instagram just happens to be a handy place to do that.
"One of the biggest misconceptions about me is that the quotes I post on Instagram are deep insights into my problems. I don't only post quotes when I'm going through something," Khloe explained on her website last week. "Quotes are allowed to move you and make you feel a certain way—it doesn't mean that you even have to have experienced what the quote is referencing. That's what poetry is all about! 95 percent of my quotes are just things that move me and make me feel good."
If not a blueprint of her brain, that doesn't necessarily mean that the quotes she's sharing at any given time aren't resonating for a very particular reason. If you save quotes in your phone or bookmark certain articles (or, throwin' it back, if you clip snippets from paper magazines), going back and looking through them years, months or even just weeks later can be like opening up a time capsule that totally brings you back to how you were feeling in that moment.
And if thoughts about Lamar and figuring out what to do about their close yet convoluted relationship hadn't been all-consuming...well, then we do want what she's having to clear her head.
Khloe had posted to Instagram: "A girl once told me to be careful when trying to fix a broken person for you may cut yourself on their shattered pieces." She explained on her site: "I think women in general are 'fixers.' We like to fix people, but not everyone can be fixed—or even wants to be fixed. People need to heal themselves on their own timeline, and the sad thing is, sometimes we do have to 'cut ourselves' on someone else to see that. Just because someone is broken doesn't mean it's our responsibility to glue them back together."
Sure enough, on the very day that Khloe sought to dispel the notions that her Instagram posts were so laden with meaning, she ended up re-filing for divorce from Lamar, seven months after halting the initial divorce proceedings while he recovered from a near-fatal drug overdose.
For a variety of reasons the legal action wasn't that surprising. Perhaps least of all because we could tell Khloe had a lot on her mind.
