It was with a heavy heart that Selena Gomez stepped out last night to the InStyle Awards.

On Friday, her makeup artist and close friend Jake Bailey was found dead of an apparent suicide.

"It was kinda hard to go out tonight but I would do anything for @kystyle -she deserves the award of the night at #InStyleAwards she makes us ladies feel beautiful always x," Gomez wrote on her Instagram referring to her stylist Kate Young.

Gomez was one of many of Bailey's star-studded client list, which also included Katy Perry, Emmy Rossum, Jenna Dewan Tatum, Ashley Benson and Nicole Richie.

"I saw him on the Sunday before," Rossum told me last night at the InStyle event. "We rode together on a plane back from New York. It makes me really sad that I didn't know how much pain he was in."

Rossum talked about what she would always remember about Bailey. "His sense of humor and his kindness most," she said. "And how he would always text me in the morning and ask me if I wanted a Starbucks and which drink did I want because he knows I have a couple of favorites depending on the season and what my mood is."

Rossum tweeted after learning of Bailey's death, "If there are angels in heaven, they just got a little prettier... because Jake is up there painting their faces... putting lashes on them..."

Perry posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. "I love you," the "Firework" singer wrote, in part. "No more work, no more searching, you are finally at peace. Every time I sit in that chair we shared, just know, no one holds a brush to you, friend. Be free now. My prayers are with the Bailey family."

The L.A. County Coroner's office confirmed to E! News on Friday that Bailey was found in his car that morning by his assistant and authorities believe he died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
