Love her or hate her, Katy Perry's beauty looks are always on-point.

So when the "Roar" singer's go-to makeup artist, Jake Bailey, stopped by E! News, we knew we had to grab some behind-the-scenes beauty secrets and tips. The E! Style Collective member is known as a beauty innovator, and his use of bright colors and bold tones are often seen on celebrities like Kate Mara, Kristen Stewart and Jessica Alba.

On set, the makeup maestro was the perfect mix of professionalism and fun. Jake was an apt teacher, translating his creativity into comprehensive steps for even the most inexperienced makeup user. He proved you really don't need a beauty team at your beck and call. With these tips of the trade, you'll be glamming it up in no time.

True or False: A lot of people love the look of false eye lashes but can be intimidated by the process. Jake recommended trying self-adhesive lash strips. You can try them on and move them around to see what placement works best for you.

The Cat's Meow: One problem that some people have with cat eyeliner is having it transfer onto the crease when you're going for a natural eyeshadow look. Jake simply applied a little powder to the crease to help with that sticky situation. He also advised keeping the eye closed for a minute to let the liner set.

Paper or Plastic: One of Jake's MacGyver makeup moves was to use either a business card or credit card to help pump on the mascara. He sets the card along the lashline (which pulls up the lashes) and uses the card to push the mascara wand against it while applying, thus really working through the lashes with the mascara and curling them up a bit and getting rid of any clumps. It also helps to prevents getting mascara on the eyelids.

The Bold and the Beautiful: When doing a bold lip, Jake suggested finishing the look by lining the outer corners of the mouth with concealer. This will really lock in and define the color. It can also really help keep a polished contrast and protect product from bleeding.

Check Yourself: Jake was on point with walking over to the camera monitors to check out his work on the model. The extra eye of the camera helped him to see what the naked eye can't. He used it to better analyze what was needed to make the look perfect. Cameras really pick up where mirrors leave off, so you have carte blanche on taking selfies to help ensure a flawless makeup look.

Party Picks: There are many theories on how to pick out a lip color but none as fun as Jake's. "Grab your girlfriends, a bottle of wine, try on some shades and keep taking pictures of yourself," he said. He emphasized the use of selfies in determining if a lipstick color was a good fit. This playful way of picking lip shades could be the most telling. Good friends tell the truth, after all.
