Producers and others working on Mission: Impossible 5 tackled a real-life, vital mission that caused production to be shut down temporarily.

The movie sees Tom Cruise reprising his role as super spy Ethan Hunt and also features returning stars Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg. Filming began last August and took place in Morocco, England and Austria.

Production was recently shut down a week so that the movie's ending could be altered and filming has since resumed and is currently underway, E! News has learned. According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Christopher McQuarrie was then given extra time to work with a new screenwriter, who will remain anonymous, to change the finale.

The previous film in the hit spy series, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (pictured above) made more than $694 million worldwide since it was released in 2011. The entire movie franchise has earned more than $2.3 billion since the first film, based on a popular '60s and '70s TV show, hit theaters in 1996.

Mission: Impossible 5 is set for release on July 31, after being scheduled originally to open in theaters during the Christmas holiday this year. It is expected to feature a slew of amazing stunts, as par for the Mission: Impossible course, such as this one:

Now the question still remains: Will Hunt's hair follow what has become the "odd-numbered Mission: Impossible movie = short style, even-numbered Mission: Impossible movie = longer style" formula?

Mission: Impossible (1996):

Paramount Pictures

Mission: Impossible II (2000):

Paramount Pictures

Mission: Impossible III (2006):

Paramount Pictures

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011):

Paramount Pictures

That information is (obviously) classified. But this is what Cruise looked like filming scenes for Mission: Impossible 5 in London in January.
