The Oscar-winning director is now apologizing for the phenomenon that swept (and continues to sweep) the nation because adults are fed up with the animated film!
"A year ago, I'd meet people who, when they found out who I was, they'd say, 'Oh, we love the songs! We sing them all the time.' Now they're like, 'Yep, we're still listening to those songs,'" Lee tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I've gone from, 'Thank you,' to, 'Sorry!'"
But Lee, 43, definitely has the last laugh, as Frozen has become the highest-grossing animated film of all time, earning $1.27 billion worldwide. And not only did it earn the Oscar for Best Animated Film, it also nabbed another gold trophy for the now-infamous hit "Let It Go."
Parents won't be catching a break anytime soon, though, because Lee is directing Frozen Fever, an animated short that will appear before Disney's live-action flick, Cinderella! Chris Buck will team up with Lee to direct the mini-installment that will also feature a new original song written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.
The "Let It Go" crooner, Idina Menzel, also admitted that she would be part of the short and even a potential sequel! But even though the debatably most famous part of the movie is a result of Menzel's vocals, she says that it isn't so easy to belt the inspirational song.
"It's really hard. I can't wake up in the morning and just sing it, you know," the Broadway star shared. "I guess my advice is everyone that likes to sing it should sing it loud and proud and karaoke it out, sing it in the shower, sing it in the car and don't worry about hitting the high notes. I'm the only one who has to worry if people are gonna criticize me."
If Frozen Fever is even half as good as the original, we're positive there will be another viral song that spreads as far and wide as "Let It Go" has.
Lee, you might be apologizing again!
