John Mellencamp can't quit Meg Ryan.
While promoting his new album, Plain Spoken, the 62-year-old rock musician once again said he hopes to reconcile with the 52-year-old rom-com queen, whom he began dating in early 2011. "I'm very happy with the time I've spent with Meg Ryan," Cougar told The Associated Press (via People). "She's a beautiful girl and I know that I will never, ever, ever be with a funnier girl than her. Not gonna happen."
"I'm grateful for the three and a half years we've been together," Mellencamp added.
Is it over? "Nothing's over," he said. "Nothing's over. I never say die for anything. Do you ever quit on anything?"
On Friday, Mellencamp appeared on NBC's Today and sang his ex-girlfriend's praises. "Meg's an angel. She's an angel sent to me, and I'm very happy," he shared. "And, you know, nothing's over 'til it's over."
When the A-list couple's breakup was first reported in August, sources cited distance as a contributing factor. Mellencamp has homes in Indiana and South Carolina and has publicly expressed his distaste for city living. The actress, meanwhile, divides her time between New York City and Chappaquiddick, Mass.
While the notoriously private Ryan has yet to comment on the split, the exes appear to be on good terms. In fact, Ryan took a photograph that was featured in the musician's new album, Plain Spoken.
Prior to dating the You've Got Mail actress, Mellencamp had been married to Priscilla Esterline, Victoria Granucci and Elaine Irwin. Ryan, meanwhile, was married to Vegas star Dennis Quaid from 1991–2001.
