The 35-year-old actor-director-author-poet-creator extraordinaire will direct and star in Garden of Last Days, per Deadline.
The flick, which is an adaptation of Andre Dubus III's book Garden of Last Days, will begin shooting July 8 in New York. The contemporary thriller tells the story of a stripper, a troubled man who gets kicked out of the club and a foreigner about to commit a terrifying act.
Although Dubus originally set the novel in the days surrounding Sept. 11, 2001, he gave his blessing for the film to take place in the present day.
No word yet on which character Franco will be playing.
