"I'm always blown away when we get to wear these custom-made dresses," Lucy Hale gushes. "We had the masquerade ball and [my dress] was inspired by Pink. Pink wore this red and black striped dress, so it was really fitted and then it went out, and they custom-made it. I felt like a modern day, edgy ballerina." Flaw. Less.
Fun or fugly? You be the judge...Lucy Hale tells us that head stylist Mandi Line will use Aria as her own fashion mini-me, which means Luca gets the most "out there" outfits. One time I wore these jeans where I think one side was stripes and one side was leopard, and then I had this sweater with all these beads—it looked like a Christmas sweater!" the actress tells us with a laugh. "It was a lot."
In season four, Pretty Little Liars treated fans to an epically awesome episode dedicated to the film noir era. The almost-entirely black-and-white hour was lavishly lush, and it Ashley Benson's (Hanna) favorite of all time. "We had never been able to dress like that and [our head stylist] Mandi Line killed it! All of the outfits in that episode, I think I had four, they were all my favorite."
Hanna Marin is also always known for her high heels, blonde locks, and fabulous dresses, skirts and bright blazers. However, according to star Ashley Benson, there was one jacket in season four that she wishes Hanna had banished from her wardrobe. "It was a purple jacket with purple fur coming out," Benson explained. "I looked like I stepped out of Clueless and it just wasn't happening, it just wasn't good! I was going to visit my mom in jail, and I was wearing that outfit—it was just so bad." As if! Despite the excess of purple fur, we still think Hanna looked like a diva.
As the head costume designer, Mandi Line has to be familiar with each character's personality, likes, dislikes and hobbies. And according to Troian Bellisario, Mandi never forgets one very important aspect of Spencer's extra-curricular activities. "I love that Spencer, even though we've never seen her on a horse, has a lot of riding awards in her room," the brunette bombshell revealed. "So whenever Mandi puts me in a giant horse motif, or gives me like a giant buckle with a horse head, I'm just like, "Thanks for remembering that I'm an equestrian,'" she said with a laugh. We love all of Spencer's horse sweaters, too!
"When I had to wear the 'A' costume, it was not so great for girls," Spencer reveals. "They're the most uncomfortable jeans ever!"
Now that Ali is officially back from the dead (yay!), Sasha Pieterse is excited to finally see Ali in current and colorful clothes. "She has always been colorful, but this is stepping it up to a whole new level," she tells us. "I think maybe it's in Alison's subconscious that she was in such a dark place for so long, and she's trying to get out of that. I think maybe that's why she's starting to go brighter with her color scheme."
That yellow shirt. Every diehard Pretty Little Liars fan knows exactly which shirt we're talking about. We've seen that shirt multiple times through our flashbacks to Ali's wild and dangerous night, and star Sasha Pieterse is ready to say goodbye to the frilly mess. "Mandi Line, our costume designer, didn't pick it," the star defended. "We had a different costume designer when we did the pilot, and [Mandi has] often said, we will burn that shirt eventually." Since Sasha has been put in and out of graves multiple times throughout the series, the iconic yellow shirt has had to be duplicated. "It got dirty with me coming out of the grave," the star explained. "So now there are 13 yellow shirts floating around." Agghhh! They're multiplying!
Although Emily is typically the most understated of all the Liars, Shay Mitchell loves whenever she gets to get glammed up. "Honestly I loved the masquarade ball," the actress gushed. "I loved the peacock feathered-mask that I got to wear and that beautiful blue dress."
Shay Mitchell is so nice, she simply couldn't bring herself to pick a worst outfit of all time, and instead came up with this second favorite look: Emily's Halloween costume in Murder Train. "That was probably one of the most fun times I've had!"
While most girls wouldn't necessarily enjoy wearing clothes that make them look like an unhip preschooler, Janel Parrish adores her geeky flashback persona. "I actually love nerdy Mona!" the acress revealed. "It's so fun to look at myself in the mirror and be like, 'Hey, I'm nerdy Mona!' It's just a fun character, so I really like her."
