The glove has been tried on. The tapes have been played. The verdict has been read. It's time to say goodbye to The People v. O.J. Simpson.
American Crime Story's first season reached its conclusion on Tuesday night, with the FX hit's retelling of the infamous O.J. Simpson trial once again capturing the nation's attention and offering new insight into the lives of some of the case's biggest players. But now that season one has reached its end, the American Crime Story team is now starting to focus on season two, which will center on Hurricane Katrina, the 2005 disaster that devastated Louisiana.
"We just started the writers' room to really explore Katrina as a crime and the crimes within it," executive producer Nina Jacobson told E! News' Kristin Dos Santos at a For Your Emmy Consideration screening of the finale, "and to find the characters and anchor it all in character."
While Hurricane Katrina might lack the sensationalism of the O.J. Simpson trial, Jacobson said the seasons will be similar in that they will be about characters and making audiences care deeply about them. "Obviously that is our job on Katrina," Jacobson said, "is to take an event that people think that they know and to give them fresh eyes to see it from the perspective of character."
However, there will be one key difference between season two and season one: "Katrina will be very different in that you won't know the outcome," executive producer Brad Simpson said. "Who lives, who dies, it's all going to be true stories."
With the crime picked and location set, it's time to find out which season one players will be coming back for the anthology series' next outing.
Courtney B. Vance, who is earning roaring praise for his portrayal of defense attorney Johnnie Cochran, already confirmed to E! News that he will be returning for season two, but doesn't know anything yet—"Ryan Murphy calls, we run"—and John Travolta, who played Robert Shapiro and served as a producer, is also hoping to come back, especially because he has a deep personal connection to the material.
"I would like to be part of Katrina because I was in real-life part of Katrina," Travolta revealed, saying he and wife Kelly Preston were both "on site" and he took his plane filled with "supplies and doctors and went where nobody was going deep into the parishes, so I have a personal interest in that...that would be one that would be very interesting for me, for sure."
