Bruce Glikas/FilmMagicOh, how we hate to pick on one of our red carpet favorites, Elizabeth Olsen. We have to figure those pesky Olsen twins were pressuring little sister Lizzie to use their hair stylist (and we are being generous by using the word "stylist") for her Romeo and Juliet Off Broadway-Opening.
Why else would this usually flawless actress leave the house thinking that scraggly knotty hair was suitable for the red carpet? You know you're just dying to smooth down that scraggly section by her temples. If we were at that event, we can assure you one of us would have tackled her to the floor while the other brushed out her knots.
At least the Kill Your Darlings star didn't listen to her sisters when it came to her makeup look. Remember we said in our Krysten Ritter post that if your skin is super pale you should stay away from pink eye shadow?
Right. So, this is a perfect example of the perfect skin tone for rocking a pink or rose eye shadow—it gives her a natural, yet evening look and makes her green eyes pop.
We're also loving the sheer pop of color on her cheeks and the on-trend-for-fall cool wine lips.
Beauty Bailout: This isn't a tough fix. All Elizabeth had to do was wash her hair, blow it out, and wrap sections of hair around a large barrel curling iron. We think she may have skipped the "wash her hair" step here and perhaps tried to recycle the previous night's tresses.
If she was short on time, she should have thrown her hair into a messy topknot. It would have looked très chic and shown off those gorgeous cheekbones.
Get the Look: Forget the busted hair… let's talk about getting her makeup look. For the eyes, after priming with concealer or eye primer, apply a flesh-colored or cream powder eye shadow to entire upper eye area.
Then, using a flat eye brush apply a shimmery rose gold eye shadow like Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Rose Gold to your lids, concentrating most of the color at the lash line and blending upwards (gives a gradient effect). Then, take an eyeliner brush dipped in the rose gold eye shadow and line your entire lower lash line.
To give eyes more definition, use an ultra-thin eyeliner brush dipped in black matte gel eyeliner like Tarte EmphasEYES Waterproof Clay Shadow / Liner and draw a thin line hugging the outer half of your upper lash line. Tip: You don't want to line your entire upper lash line or it can make your eyes appear smaller. Follow with 2-3 coats of your favorite volumizing mascara.
To get Elizabeth's pretty flushed looking cheeks, use a gel-based blush like Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée in Pink Escape, which gives cheeks a natural-looking highlight and glow. Swipe your middle finger on the blush and tap it into the apples of your cheeks in a circular motion. Then, blend blush points together and upwards for an added lift.
To copy Elizabeth's pucker, start by exfoliating lips with a sugar scrub or your toothbrush. Then, either using a flesh-colored lip pencil or one that matches your lipstick exactly, line or fill in entire lip area. Next, using a lip brush, apply a creamy long-lasting soft wine lipstick like Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Manic.
We do hope Elizabeth will learn not to listen to her older sisters when it comes to beauty. We are going to be so upset if we start seeing her in cadaverous nude lipsticks and haunting brown smoky eyes. Don't fall into their evil vortex, Lizzie! Don't do it!
