Chris Brown Charged With Hit and Run, Takes to Twitter to Defend Himself

Singer is also accused of driving without a valid license at the time of an incident that occurred on May 21

It hasn't been a very good week for Chris Brown. And it's only Tuesday.

Just days after the singer was involved in accusations of assaulting a woman at a San Diego nightclub (what happened there is still being disputed), the L.A. City Attorney's office tells E! they have filed two criminal charges against Brown this morning—hit and run as well as driving without a valid license.

The charges stem from an incident back on May 21 where Brown hit another car and allegedly refused to give his driver's license number and then left the scene.

His arraignment is set for July 15.

The City Attorney says the DA will be notified for possible probation violation in the Rihanna assault case because of the new charges. However, at this time, the DA has not yet been contacted regarding the new charges.

"When we do receive them, we will consider them," DA spokesperson Jane Robison tells E! News.

Brown faces a maximum punishment of six months in jail and $1,000 fine for each offense.

Meanwhile, Brown tweeted away in the wake of the charges.

"It's not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous," he wrote on Twitter.

He followed that tweet up with several more.

"I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene."

"She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures."

"My lawyers will be contacting you. I will not stand for this bullying and yellow journalism!"
