There's a right way—and a wrong way—to wear big hair! Alicia Keys got blasted recently for her over-the-top beehive (maybe it was the curlicue?!) but stars like Kelly Osbourne and Kourtney Kardashian are getting kudos for their poufy pompadours.

The Style Network's in-house hair guru, Mathias Alan, tells us the right way to tease our tresses into a modern-day spin on the ‘60s-inspired style:

To start, section the hair into three parts, starting at the top of the crown, going to the middle of the ear on either side and pinning the front hair forward.

Take the back of your hair off the nape of your neck and pull it into a high ponytail on the crown of your head. Use a spritz of medium-hold hairspray and tease the hair, working in sections, into a nest before you pin it under to create a bun.

Working with the remainder of your hair, gather it in sections and alternately spray, tease and flat-iron the hair as you go.

Once you've finished spraying, teasing and ironing, take a big brush and lightly brush out the tease to reveal the texture.

Give your head another light blast with the spray and begin shaping the hair up into a beehive, pinning and placing it over the bun you created at the beginning. (Start with the sides, they're easiest to pin back.)

To finish, gather up the very front of the hair and add a little bit of the tease to give it some lift before pinning back. Hairspray and bobby pins will keep this look up all day!
