This is the question many of you fans have been emailing in (frantically) about, as an unconfirmed rumor of Rita's death is spattering through the Internet. (Hope you're wearing your spatter suit.)
But is it true?
Dexter's third-season finale airs on Showtime this Sunday night (anyone else counting the minutes?), and today we went directly to Julie, Michael C. Hall and other cast members of this jaw-droppingly good series for scoop on Rita's fate and more...
When I asked Julie B. (love her) if Rita was going to be gunned down at her wedding or be killed in some equally chilling scenario, she declared, in a very convincing matter, "No! No!" So no blood-drenched wedding dresses? "I do get to wear it again. I don't want to give a spoiler away before it airs."
Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan) also dismissed the rumor of Rita's death, saying, "If that does happen, I wasn't there when they shot that."
OK, if M.C.H. denies it, I think we can all breathe easy. (Though I must admit I am still a wee bit concerned about exactly what kind of revenge the only remaining Prado brother, Ramon, will seek on Dexter.)
The Dexter cast promises that Sunday's finale has plenty of spine-tingling drama to spare—and a body count. As Michael C. Hall puts it, "Dexter's a crazy magnet; what can I say? I'm starting to think that's the only explanation."
C.S. Lee (Vincent Masuka) tells me, "There might be a death or two, or three. It'll be a good death, I can guarantee that." Are we going to cheer or cry for those deaths? According to David Zayas (Angel Batista), "Might be both. The finale is going to be a lot of fun, a lot of twists; there's a lot of [blowback] from what happened in the last episode."
And don't worry; James Remar (Dex's daddy) promises that Dexter's failed foray into friendship didn't do any permanent damage to his prowess as a killer. As for fatherly advice on his son's big day, James says, "I believe Dexter knows the code. He knows what to do. Don't let his emotions get the better of him. Don't act out of anger. Take your time and make sure they deserve it."
Dexter's most recent victim, Jimmy Smits (Miguel Prado), says that even though Prado lost his battle with Dexter, we probably haven't seen the last of the diabolical D.A.
Jimmy tells me, "One component of that show is that Dexter gets to talk to the other side in the form of his dad and his mom and all that. If it is true that Miguel Prado is no longer a part of the living, he can still survive in another sphere on that show."
Wait a minute...if it is true Miguel Prado is dead? He has to be fully dead, right? We've seen the promos, and he certainly looks stiff as a board lying in that cemetery!
As for the big finish, Jimmy spills, "The finale is going to be a wrap-up of all of the storylines, including what happened with Miguel Prado, of course. Dexter's in the middle of getting married right now, and what you've seen these past 12 episodes is Dexter is trying to reach out and become normal by taking on this family and taking on this friendship. I guess we'll see if that really works for this character or not."
