As we've already teased, tonight's Private Practice finale is absolutely deranged, thanks to loco for choco puffs Katie Kent (Amanda Foreman) and her dastardly designs on poor, pregnant Violet. In honor of tonight's big season-two ender, the articulate and gracious Amy Brenneman kindly shared a few minutes of her day to talk about the madwoman, the baby and Vi's fate...

What can you tell us about the baby-daddy situation?

There's a scene in the season finale that is just lovely where Violet really does open up to the possibility of being with Pete, and I think that both men have said to her, "I want to be with you, and I don't care if it's mine or not." I think Shonda [Rhimes] wanted to sort of break up the issues of who Violet wants to be with, who she's attracted to and who the father of the baby is. She just wanted to have a big complicated soup.

So we won't know what happens to Violet and her baby and her baby daddy until season three?
Yes, that's right.

Is Violet ready to be a parent, or is she still a little bit anxious and hesitant?
All of the above. I think what Shonda wrote and hopefully what I pulled off is a certain ambivalence. Violet is a fascinating combination of courage and fear. Way back during the first season, actually, Shonda and I were talking one day about how, especially in that first season, Kate Walsh's character was dealing with fertility stuff, wanting to have a baby and she couldn't. And then Audra McDonald's character is a mom, and I said to Shonda, "You should really make Violet not want to be a mom, and that's the person that should get pregnant."

As the psychologist of the group, does Violet weigh in on Noah and Addison in the finale?
She doesn't, although I think she should. Everybody's in their own universe. That's a really interesting storyline, too. It's funny, when we were reading it in the script, I remember Kate saying to me and some other people, "Oh, I don't know," being kind of worried about it, wondering, "Is it going to make Addison look bad?" And I was all for it. It does happen, and it's just so complicated. Back in the day, way before my marriage, I would date married men. I was like, "Oh, it happens." And then watching it, I'm like, "What's wrong with me?!" It's pretty rich.

What can you tease about tonight?
Shonda told me that I can say something happens that is so big and upsetting that it actually makes the question of who is the baby's father secondary.

Are you fully on the Private Practice train, or do you want to get off? Who's your favorite character? Post in the comments, and don't forget to tune in tonight at 10 for the finale!
