Real Housewives of D.C. star Mary Schmidt Amons has some explaining to do—and it has nothing to do with the Salahis.

In tonight's premiere episode of the latest installment of the Housewives franchise, the stay-at-home mom of five makes an impromptu speech at her birthday party about the need to integrate hair salons.

Sure, D.C. is the land of politics, but what the heck was Mary talking about?

"Salons need to integrate," she babbled to hair stylist Ted Gibson and fellow Housewife Stacie Scott Turner, both of whom are African-American. "We have different hair, different needs, but why do we have to be in a different salon? There's a wave to ride here with our new administration with the beautiful couple we have leading our country."

Mary admits it wasn't one of her finer moments. Or simply put, blame it on the alcohol.

"You could see that I had a little champagne and saying a couple of things that didn't make a whole lot of sense," she told me earlier this week. "I definitely put my foot in my mouth, but really the motivation behind the comment was my dear friend Ted came to D.C. and I really want to get him recognized."

Fair enough. Hey, at least she didn't crash a party at the White House.

Now, what about Mary's claims of being family friends with the Kennedys? She says her dad, a Washington lobbyist, was friends with Sen. Robert Kennedy's widow, Ethel. "They would invite us over in the summer occasionally to have barbecues and picnics and hang out," she said.

She admits to having had a childhood crush on the Kennedys' ninth child, Max. "I wanted to be Mrs. Max Kennedy," Mary said.

Yeah, but then she probably wouldn't be where she is today. A Kennedy on The Real Housewives? We don't think so.
