Move Over, Miley?

Is the onscreen competition between Miley Cyrus and fellow tween Disney sensation Selena Gomez about to get real?

I’m told Disney executives are so worried about Cyrus’ recent controversies that, more than ever, they want to make Gomez an even bigger star.

The 15-year-old Gomez now stars in the Disney Channel hit Wizards of Waverly Place, but last year she appeared on two episodes of Hannah Montana as Mikayla, one of Hannah’s pop star rivals.

“Selena sings and acts and is really young,” a source reports. “She is going to be the next Miley Cyrus. [Disney executives] really want this.”

Next up for Gomez is the Warner Bros. movie Another Cinderella Story, scheduled for a fall release. No surprise, but I’ve just learned that Gomez has recorded several new songs for the flick.

“The studio has high hopes for this,” says my source.

But a Disney rep insists there are no plans to try and replace Cyrus in any way with Gomez.

“We are fortunate to work with a host of young actors and actresses who are each unique and making their own trajectory based on their talent,” the rep said via email this morning. “However, Wizards of Waverly Place is a bona fide hit with kids and families, and licensees and retailers are indeed interested in the series. As for Selena, she deserves all the success that’s coming her way.”

Note to Gomez: If Vanity Fair comes calling, wait a few years before calling them back.

How sad that a huge corporation as Disney has such power to play these kids like cards in a poker game. They are obviously talented kids, and Disney pimps them out to the world. Hilary Duff had the right idea by removing herself from this mess. Brittany's and Lindsey's eyes (and the eyes of those looking out for their better interests as KIDS and not for their marketability) should have seen their demise coming. It's like signing over your soul.

Miley Cyrus used to be a good role model for my 7 yr old but now shes the talk amongst little girls now my daughter doesnt want to buy her products. You can see how much older she looks compared to Selena with all of that make up on. If anyone wants to be popular dont make mistakes.

Miley or whatever her name is, has lost a big fan base with those photos. My daughter wants nothing to do with Hannah Montana anymore. She's 10 and she has more sense than that girl.

If Disney is really pushing Selena to "take Miley's place" then believe me I'll be turing off the Disney channel. I have always disliked Disney's pushing it's teen stars so far and marketing them to no end. Miley has made a mistake, so be it. Everyone does...what are we teaching our kids if we suddenly tell them not to watch Miley anymore. Aren't we saying that you need to be perfect, you can't make a mistake or that's it. My daughter said to me this morning that I "still love her when she makes a mistake, and she still loves Miley even though she made a mistake". She went on to say "if we stopped liking people when they made a mistake, then we wouldn't like anybody". That's a 7 year old and I think she is far wiser than many of us parents.

This picture was taken by a professional and was for a magazine that uses pictures like this for everyone they sell. It's not like they were private pictures. I think people need to get over it, and get on with their lives. I think she is still a great role model for young girls.
